Tune-ups can keep the HVAC running more smoothly

When my wife and I had a full-service tune-up last year, the repair technician found a problem with our electronic ignition switch

Getting your HVAC unit a tune-up is part of regular yearly maintenance. A tune-up can help your HVAC system perform better. It is absolutely true that a well-maintained system will last several years longer. Most companies offer an HVAC tuneup that covers all parts of the heating and cooling equipment. My family and I contact a company that has a 25 point inspection. The HVAC tune-up includes a list of items that need to be checked for problems. Some of the items that are checked are mechanical. The repair technician will inspect our duct work, filters, and our heat exchanger and evaporator coils. They flush and clean the drain line from the AC to the outside of the house. The HVAC technician usually checks our carbon monoxide levels along with the batteries inside of the fire detector. The HVAC tune-up also includes the inspection of the safety devices and controls, electrical connections, emergency shut-offs, and the refrigerant level in the AC machine. You should have your HVAC system tune up at least once during the year. It is even better for the machine to have a tune-up on the AC during the Spring and a tune-up on the furnace during the winter. When my wife and I had a full-service tune-up last year, the repair technician found a problem with our electronic ignition switch. The guy felt it should be changed out now before it stopped the furnace from working properly. It didn’t cost much money to replace the electronic ignition switch and I didn’t have to pay a service fee because the contractor was already at my home.
