Northern weather and heating

I am going to visit my parents up north in a week. I am only staying a few days. Visiting the north in the fall is quite pretty. The leaves change, the grapes are in full bloom and the weather isn’t extremely cold yet. The problem is that it is much colder than I am used to as a southerner. My parents are getting temperatures in the 50s just about everyday. The temperature lingers all day long and creates some cold nights as well. It is rare to get a night in the 50s in my area. My husband and I still rely on AC throughout the day. I still wear a tank top and shorts outside. I know my mother bundles up in a robe in the morning and then wears a sweatshirt and pants all day. Since my parents are northerners, they are hardcore about the cold. My parents never seem to turn on the heater. I get their point, once the heater goes on, they are probably using it until around may. They want to prolong it as much as they can. They don’t want to have 8 months of needing the heater. They really do need it though. I am prepared for a very cold trip at my parents house. I have packed pants and a sweatshirt that I plan to wear the whole time. I think it is highly unlikely the gas fireplace will be fired up in my honor too. My parents will just hand me blankets and more layers if I am cold.
