Have you ever thought about how people stayed comfortable inside their homes without cooling units? Well, speaking from experience, when Mindy was growing up, her dwelling only had 3 window cooling systems. So, there were many rooms inside her childhood dwelling that lacked air conditioning. Luckily, they had a few fans that helped to circulate the air throughout the house. At the time, it was the best situation for her family because there were many houses that only had fans. Mindy once saw pictures from back in the 1770s or perhaps early 1800s, where kids were dunking their heads in water and were also licking blocks of ice to stay cool. This happened before the phase when cooling systems were installed in residential homes. As fun as these ideas sound, nothing beats having central air. And thankfully, with the invention, Mindy can enjoy the luxury of a cool dwelling whenever she likes. She could be wrong, but the weather back in the 1800s was honestly not as hot as it is today, so finding fun ways to cool off would work for the people who lived back then. When she was growing up, Mindy didn’t dunk her head in water, but she did run through the water from the fire sprinklers or fire hydrants that were on their block. This was one of the ways that she tried to beat the heat during the hot Summer months. Having a heat pump is a luxury that many of us prefer today. Personally, Mindy is cheerful that she has access to a heat pump because she is not sure what she would do without it.
