For sure, I’m all for cutting costs around the house. I spend far too many hours inside the commercial HVAC of the office to waste any of my hard earned money. I’m thankful to have a family who supports me when it comes to reining in costs. Much of my income is predicated on a bonus structure. So there are times when I have to give everyone the heads up to be really careful about what they spend. And pretty much since the beginning of the pandemic, I have been careful about spending. When I was working from the central air conditioning of the house during the worst of it, there was no bonuses at all. In fact, the bonus structure has only been back in place for the last 18 months or so. So we are again making sure that we are super careful with the thermostat setting to save on cooling costs. The Summer heat is for sure our biggest challenge when it comes to utility costs. The mild Winter sure helps as the heating costs are basically negligible. Still, we make up for it in the Summer. That means keeping the house sealed up tight and stopping direct sunlight heating with blinds and drapes being pulled each day. I program the digital thermostat as well so we don’t have air conditioning running too much in an empty house. Still, with as much as we do to save on HVAC costs, I don’t skimp on HVAC maintenance. Without fail, we get HVAC maintenance in the Fall and again in the Spring. Our residential HVAC is just too important to our family not to spend money on consistent, seasonal HVAC maintenance.
