The HVAC repair tech showed up drunk

I consider myself a tolerant person, but even I have limits.

When the A/C repair tech came over for a service call, I could clearly smell the intense smell of booze on him.

It didn’t seem like he had a beer at lunch, but that he had spent all night soaking in a bathtub full of rum. It made my eyes water just catching the smell of him. I told the guy that I was canceling the appointment, and then I called his boss. Normally I am not such a Karen, but here was an alleged HVAC professional who was driving around town while stinking drunk! I called the HVAC contractor, a man named Jim who I have done business with for several years. I explained what had happened, and that one of his HVAC techs was drunk driving and showing up to residences in such a state. Jim was sympathetic, and apologized profusely. It turns out I was the third HVAC client who had called Jim that day, all complaining about the same tech. Jim was very kind, and said he would come over to my house the following day and do all the HVAC work for free, as a way of saying he was sorry for the incident. I will never turn down a free air conditioner tune-up, but my main concern was this drunk guy driving all over town. If this guy is drunk on the job and crashes the van or hurts somebody, it would put Jim’s small HVAC company out of business for good.
