What do they do with the ductwork?

When the HVAC technician showed up last week, he told my husband we needed new ductwork.

I was upset about the price, and I was just as upset thinking about what they were going to do with all that ductwork.

I wanted to know if they were going to recycle the ductwork or just throw it away. There was already too much metal in the landfills, and that was never going to biodegrade. I knew that older ductwork was made with aluminum and that was something you could get good money for, if it was recycled. I talked to the HVAC technician and asked if I could have the aluminum ductwork when they took it out of the house. I was sure I could get enough money for my motorcycle wheels if I could recycle the old ductwork. Dad told me I could have the ductwork as long as I disposed of it responsibly and I didn’t let it lay in the yard for the next decade. I promised I would borrow my friend’s truck, and we would take it to the scrap yard. Dad told me it was now up to the HVAC company. They would remove the ductwork and replace it with flexpipe. If they gave me the ductwork, it was up to me to take care of it. Two weeks later, the HVAC technicians arrived to remove the old ductwork. I talked to the HVAC technician who looked like he may be the work supervisor, and I asked what they would do with the ductwork. I told him that unless they kept it I wanted to recycle it. He told me to bring the truck to the house, and they would load the ductwork into the truck for us.
