The furnace was going boom, boom, boom!

I woke up two mornings ago to the sound of boom, boom, boom.

It sounded like a giant hammer hitting against metal, right outside my window.

There was nothing outside, so I laid there listening. Five minutes later, the furnace turned off, and it was quiet in the house. Fifteen minutes went by, and the furnace turned back on, along with the boom, boom, boom. I called the HVAC company and had the HVAC technician listen to the noise. He came right over to the house, but told me to pack a bag in case it was something serious, and we had to get out of the house. I’m sure what was making the noise in the furnace, but I didn’t want to be here if it was going to blow up on me. I called my husband and let him hear the noise, and he told me he would call me back in five. When he called back, he said he was on his way home and asked if I had called the HVAC company. After telling him what the technician said, he asked if I was packed. By the time my husband got home, the HVAC technician was already at the house, and in the basement working on the furnace. I’m not sure what happened, but the HVAC technician told us it would be better if we got out until they could replace the igniter switch. The sounds we were hearing were small explosion coming from the igniter switch. He had to order the new igniter switch and it could take a day or two.
