I’m proud to continue a tradition that our parents started when I was young; then for me, I grew up in a really nice home with a wonderful central air conditioner and plenty of other wonderful stuff… But for our parents, they grew up legitimately poor, and there were even times for both of them that they were not able to get modern clothes or even enough to eat at times… Of course, they grew up inside homes that did not have residential heating and A/C. But they both made the best of their circumstances, got to university and came out with an education. That led to careers for both of them and a nice lifestyle as well. But our parents were always keenly aware of where they came from! And they really did put their money where their mouth was, and when it came to Thanksgiving, they made sure they had a little envelope full of currency for all the repair people in our lives. That was the milkman, the postman and even the heating and A/C contractor, and I don’t have a milkman anymore and my buddy and I have a post office box. But I care about to continue the tradition of these currency envelopes at Thanksgiving, just a handful of weeks ago, I laid a single on the heating and A/C contractor who was here doing the heating maintenance on our gas oil furnace; he quickly thought I was paying him for the heating and A/C maintenance. I explained to him that I was simply grateful for all his efforts year in and year out when it came to taking care of the heating and cooling component in our home. This really blew that guy’s brain to shreds.
