Remote work – comes with energy bill stipend

If you have a work from home before, you’d probably know how awesome it is.

I totally understand why more and more companies are moving towards this style of employment.

It makes a lot of sense to save everyone time, energy, and money by letting people stay in the comfort of their own homes to do their computer work. It makes a lot of sense to me. Why should you get up, get pretty, and sit in traffic for an hour when you could do the same work in your bedroom? Personally, I’m a huge fan and I seek out remote work whenever I can. The only thing is, when you work remotely you naturally see an increase in your regular utility bills. It makes sense, if you are out of the house for a third of each day, you use a third less energy. Conversely, when you are at home 24/7, you have to operate the lights and HVAC system for each one of those hours. I can tell you, it adds up when your air conditioning system and forced air furnace never get a break. Luckily, it seems like some modern companies are also realizing the additional financial fees placed on remote workers due to energy expenses. These days, you can even find jobs that come with an energy bill stipend. It’s meant to offset the cost of working in your home office under reasonably comfortable conditions, as well as the additional work load placed on your heating, cooling, and ventilation system overtime. I’m hoping that they start to include an HVAC upgrade bonus every few years. Fingers crossed that this remote trend continues.
